Back in June of 2019, I was offered the opportunity to create a radio show for the (then) brand-new UK-based worldwide online radio station Voodoo Radio Online. I was quickly delighted to discover that what I was joining was pretty much the antithesis of modern commercial radio, so I was pretty excited.
I was told to do "anything I liked" - say what I liked, play what I liked, and to create an hour-long format weekly radio broadcast along those lines.
I soon found out that, among some other very respected and established radio presenters, I was joining the first-ever presenter who played my music on the air! We wound up (totally by chance) on the same station!
That seemed to me to be either an amazing coincidence or.... stations with this kind of sparky outlook were less plentiful than I perhaps liked to believe. Either way, I took it as a sign that it was definitely something I should do.
To be honest, it was a little daunting to me, and you can actually hear it in the first few shows that I hadn't yet formed a clear idea of what I was doing. I requested to be put on late at night to be certain that I really could play anything I liked, to build up my confidence as a presenter, and to discover the meaning - the reason I had (besides the desire to see the station grow and succeed) to be given such an amazing opportunity on a silver platter, as it were.
What I created was The Graveyard Drift.
Here, you can listen to the shows (and the journey I've had in creating them) from those first trepidatious steps to, well, now.
It's a lovely, quirky station with a whole host of nice people from all over the world coming together to create something special and unique, and very much outside of the Great Media Machine.
Please do listen to The Graveyard Drift here, but also, if you will, please support Voodoo Radio Online, as well. Check out some of the other shows and listen to the daily live streams over on the station site. And tune in to me on Thursdays!! And tell your friends!!
